The 2018 Atlantic article is what introduced me to Jesse. I read it the week it was published and within a few days Slate published an article with a headline about the Atlantic running an anti-trans story. I had no idea they were talking about Jesse's piece because it's not anti-trans. And thus began my education in the trans rights movement. What really impressed me at that time was Jesse politely refused to recant or apologize.
And then he was routinely savaged in left wing spaces for years. Now that the line is shifting it must be satisfying to some degree for Jesse to see some sanity returning to the discussion of this topic. But it also must be hard not to be angry at these people like the guy in this article, I've already forgotten his name, and Brianna Wu. Wu has been on a tour of heterodox spaces recently, Quillete and The Free Press podcasts, denouncing the extremism of trans activists. Wu back in the day was fully on board the Trans Crazy Train and she said some seriously fucked-up things about Jesse. Here's a primer.
I think Jesse is in a unique space because of the way he was hounded. I understand his position but when I think about how this new dawn should be treated, I'm basically picturing struggle sessions where these people who went after Jesse must confess their wrongthink. These are my thoughts, not Jesse's, but I don't think anyone wants that. It's going to be hard to forgive these people.
Wow. Thx for the link, had no idea that Jesse had been targeted this viciously. Even more mad respect for him, after having gone through that.
But expecting these people to apologize or confess their wrongthink is an idle hope, sadly. Based on the Quillette piece you linked, they seem committed to promoting their cause BY ANY MEANS AVAILABLE, excuse the all-caps. They will never, ever admit fault.
