Along those lines, yeah, my core issue isn't secret (or not) testicles whizzing around the track far in the lead in the women's middle distance events or any particular cultural substrate, but the never-ending and seductive drive to figure out what the hell is going on in the heads of Wokish people I thought I knew well and I know for certain are at least as "smart" as I am.
I keep trying to imagine what I would do if faced with the choice of lying in the service of a goal along with with everyone in my preferred social "tribe," or risking opprobrium and saying "Hey, you're now the climate-change-denialist neighbor you've been ripping on for 10 years, just with a different hat on."
I mean, this is automatic and has nothing to do with me being a great person or even close to the top of the first quintile, but (and another nod to this column's teachings) I'm clearly in the Jesse Singal "right-siders" faction, whereas everyone who now happens to be an editor at a running magazine is not.
I think I can start composing posts of my own just by copying and pasting all of my comments on SIngal-Minded lately into one dyspeptic slag heap.
